Men generally, under such a government as this, think that they ought to wait until they have persuaded the majority to alter them. They think that, if they should resist, the remedy would be worse than the evil. But it is the fault of the government itself that the remedy is worse than the evil. It makes it worse.

Last night's earthquake in Italy was a tragic event which affected areas and people close to many of us in the Zapruder (World) community. While we mourn for those who died and attempt to help those who survived, we should also wonder what our institutions could be doing to better prevent these types of avoidable infrastructure-related tragedies.
"Philosophers have hitherto only interpreted the world in various ways; the point is to change it."
According to current media reports from Turkey, every day the authorities are threatening and arresting academics of various stripes over their efforts to promote peace and democracy in their country.
